WHAT IS THE JMP METHOD?
The JMP Method is a tailor-made program consisting of one-on-one coaching to help you develop your writing skills.
It is based on rigorous academic research undertaken in countries such as the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Turkey and China.
These studies examined the various methods used to teach writing and compared their success rates. They measured the impact of the many forms of corrective feedback on writing tasks and found a combination of verbal and written feedback can lead to the greatest improvements. This research informs the JMP Method.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ONE-ON-ONE COACHING?
JMP’s one-on-one coaching is an alternative to larger classes where your individual needs cannot always be met. Have you ever attended a class where you wished the teacher had focused on a particular topic? With JMP, you can make those special requests.

is the JMP method suitable if i have english as a second or additional language?
Yes, definitely. The JMP Method is suitable for native and non-native speakers (ESOL). For ESOL candidates, we will work towards helping you eliminate typical ESOL errors in your writing and will also aim to advance your use of the written language to a higher level.

HOW WILL I KNOW MY WRITING IS IMPROVING?
Over time, you should begin to notice, before being told by your coach, where your writing can be improved and be developing the skills to adjust it. You are now on your way to gaining the skills to self-edit your writing.
This marks a significant shift in your learning journey; it is a very exciting and satisfying moment. At that stage, it can also be pleasing to reread the earlier pieces you have written to see how far you have come.
How is the jmp method delivered?
The JMP Method consists of individual modules, each containing three parts.
Part One is a pre-writing conference where you will be given a writing task and tips on how to complete it.
In Part Two, you complete your writing task in your own time.
Part Three is a post-writing conference where you receive verbal and written feedback, all designed to help you improve your writing skills.
Each module takes two weeks with conferences via forums such as Zoom and written feedback on Microsoft Track changes and sometimes, email.
WHAT are THE WRITING TASKS?
The writing tasks will be varied and might include information pieces, blogs, LinkedIn posts, speeches, presentations and email communication where misunderstandings often occur

WHAT TYPE OF FEEDBACK DO YOU PROVIDE?
Our suggestions for improvement might focus on word choice, the correct use of grammar, sentence construction or the structure of a piece. Is it told in a clear manner? Is it easy to follow? Our intent is to help you develop precise messaging using plain English in an easy-to-understand manner.
What is the length of EACH WRITING TASK?
The length of each writing task will depend on its purpose. For example, a blog might be 250 words, a summary or report at 500 words and a speech around 750 words.
The JMP Method provides feedback on up to 750 words for each module.
WHAT IF i want a different type of program?
Email dawn@jmpwritingcoach.com or fill in the query form below to request a different type of program. For example, you may already have written a piece and only seek feedback on how it can be improved. Or you may want feedback on a longer piece.
