Writing coach Dawn Adams

Dawn Adams is a writing coach and writer with a postgraduate teaching qualification.

She is connected by life experience and DNA to much of the world’s population. Her links to almost everyone make her ambitious in her goal to help you develop your writing skills.

Always a writer

Dawn was always going to be a writer.

She was given her first typewriter at age six (before computers) to spur on her storytelling skills.

Later, she honed her writing abilities at the University of Technology completing a BA (Communications). And later again, in 2020, she pursued her interest in teaching writing by completing a postgraduate TESOL qualification at the University of Southern Queensland. This course gifted her the insights needed to develop the JMP Method of intensive one-on-one writing coaching.

Dawn’s writing career has earnt her a front-row seat at at events like Hong Kong Fashion Week and Australian Fashion Week as well as granted her an insider’s view to trend forums such as Heimtextil in Frankfurt.

Published writing in newspapers

Her articles have been published widely in newspapers and magazines like The Australian, The Sun-Herald, Prevention, Marketing and E-commerce Today as well as the Singapore-based Peak magazine and numerous business titles online and in print.

She has interviewed creatives, entrepreneurs, politicians, philanthropists and even an astronaut. She has written news and feature articles, press releases, speeches, website content, corporate blogs, e-newsletters and more on topics such as health, travel, e-commerce and food.

Dawn has also been enlisted to speak at industry forums and held senior roles in publishing such as overseeing the quality of business titles at Yaffa Publishing, managing the Sydney office of a Perth daily newspaper and securing an advisory board post for Fashion Exposed, an Australian trend event.

Her interest in adult education has seen her complete teacher training for IELTS preparation. She has also upgraded her skills in digital learning, social media marketing and grant and tender writing through Deakin University, the University of Sydney and the Australian Catholic University.

Before starting the JMP Writing Coach, Dawn was already coaching university students, career professionals as well as primary and high school pupils, many with English as a second language, to help them develop their writing, public speaking and presentation skills.

Words are powerful; they can shape and shift public opinion but not everyone has an equal voice. Especially if they struggle with their language skills.

Our point of difference: the JMP method

In 2020, Dawn returned to university to revisit linguistics, the study of language and its structure.

The postgraduate course in TESOL (teaching English to speakers of other languages) at the University of Southern Queensland focused on areas such as word choice, how sentences are structured and their many components, how meaning is conveyed and how languages and writing are taught and learnt.

Especially helpful were the many academic studies that examined how best to provide feedback on written work to encourage and foster improvements.

From these learnings, she developed the JMP Method, an intensive one-on-one writing coaching program.

Creating an opportunity to help people improve their writing is my contribution towards making a fairer world.
